Fic

Just gave my teen boy fic a funny acronym: ASSLand.

Haha. It will probably never stick in my head, but it will most likely remain the notice I use in my story notes. “Welcome to ASSLand.”

FIC ==> A word usually used to mean “fanfiction” though usually with the rider “fanfic.” But it’s such a bit part of my vocabulary that it’s grown to signify any story of piece of fiction that I write.

“I write original slash fic. I love reading slash fic in various genres and fandoms, though I have been drawn into some epic, character-driven gen fics. I only very rarely read het fic, not unless they’re written by someone I admire.”

TRANSLATION: I write original fiction stories, mostly with male-male relationships. I love reading gay, male-male fanfiction stories in whatever fandom, though there’s times I’ve been drawn into character-driven no romance fanfiction stories that are just really good. I sometimes read het, or male-female relationship stories, but it’s mostly a rare thing unless they’re written by a fanfiction author I like.

So in my head every story I write is a “fic.” Then they get broken down into subheadings:

Slash fic (male/male relationship, most containing sex or sexual intimacy)
Gen-het fic (no sex, canon relationships for the most part)
Het Fic (male/female relationship, most containing sex or sexual intimacy)
Femslash fic (female/female relationship, most containing sex or sexual intimacy)

Some people use the “preslash” label to point out that no sex happens in the story, though a relationship is developing.
